Tupac Shakur’s Mom ‘Blown Away’ By Lifelike Hologram of Long-Dead Son at Coachella
It’s probably no surprise that the big buzz out of Coachella is the long-awaited return of rapper Tupac Shakur, who has been dead for 15 years.
Pac died in 1996 at the age of 25, gunned down on the Vegas strip after a Tyson fight. So much mystery and speculation has followed the rapper’s death, and those of us old enough to remember it have been half expecting Tupac’s return since Makaveli’s album hit not long after he was killed. Tupac sightings are not very uncommon, and next to Elvis, Pac is probably the most commonly spotted dead celeb.
So when he took the stage at Coachella in hologram form Sunday night, pop culture’s collective mind was blown. And while it might seem weird to some that the dead rapper was performing with old pals Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, his mom Afeni Shakur told TMZ that seeing her son again was pretty cool:
“A rep for Afeni tells TMZ, she was absolutely positively THRILLED with Tupac’s virtual performance – when he appeared alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg during the headlining show at Coachella last night … walking back and forth across the stage like he was actually present… The rep says Dr. Dre asked Afeni for approval to incorporate Pac into his performance — and she said yes. As a thank you, we’re told Dre made a donation to the rapper’s charity … The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.”
While the “is Tupac alive” question is probably at this point answered, the hologram appearance is viewable in the clip below, with some NSFW language.
