McDonald’s to Add More Limited Time Menu Options to Duplicate McRib, Shamrock Shake Success

McDonald’s is implementing a new sales-driving strategy that is only surprising in that they didn’t figure it out sooner.

While the chain is kind of a guilty pleasure for many, there are a few items that have devoted fans coming out in droves to patronize the fast-food chain when the menu options appear “for a limited time.” (Most notably, the McRib sandwich and the Shamrock Shake, but I personally am a bigger fan of the unsung Eggnog Shake.)

While many wouldn’t be caught dead bragging about a McDonald’s run on Facebook, cult items like the pork-patty sandwich or the minty ice cream confection causes many McDonald’s goers to shed their shame in order to get in on the goods while the items make their limited appearances.

McDonald’s offered eight limited-time menu options, and had success earlier this year with the new Chicken McBites option. In the summer, a blueberry banana nut oatmeal breakfast item and a Cherry Berry Chiller smoothie will debut, to be available through August. Spokesman for McDonald’s Wendy Cook told press this week that the chain feels McDonald’s customers are “starved for variety.”
