Texting While Walking Could Get You Fined [Video]
Once upon a time the only thing you could get a ticket for while doing something simple like walking was if you got caught jaywalking and the police officer felt like issuing you a ticket.
Well in Fort Lee, New Jersey, the police have decided that if they catch you texting while you are walking down the street you can expect to be fined. The reasoning behind this is that the police say that people are constantly putting themselves at risk of being hit by vehicles because they aren’t paying attention.
The police in Fort Lee have been handing out leaflets up to this point to pedestrians caught texting while walking but that is about to change said Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli at a recent news conference.
So far this year some 20 people have been hit by cars because they weren’t paying attention to what was going on around them while texting as they walked down the street.
