Man Dies While Attempting Really Stupid World Record Burial Stunt

Buried Alive

If you’re going to attempt the breaking of a world record it’s probably a good idea not to follow in the footsteps of Janaka Basnayake. The Sri Lankan man died this week when he attempted to break the world’s record for time spent buried alive under a mount of sand.

At approximately 9:30am friends and family buried Janaka in a 10-foot-deep trench that was sealed with wood and soil and when he was unearthed at 4pm the man had died.

Amazingly this wasn’t the man’s first brush with death, he had previously been buried for two and a half hours and then again for six hours in order to prepare for the world record title.

Ironically his six hour time may have been enough to secure a world record as we couldn’t find a verifiable account of anyone attempting such a ridiculously stupid feat of human endurance.

Do you think Janaka’s stunt was foolish and ill-conceived?
