Dan Savage, Creator of ‘It Gets Better’ Campaign, Accused of ‘Bullying’ Christian Students

It’s probably the fakest outrage of all fake outrages that sex columnist Dan Savage- who created the “It Gets Better” campaign to reach out to LGBT youth across the US after a spate of suicides among gay kids- is now being accused of bullying Christian kids.

A dozen high school journalists are said to have walked out of a talk featuring Savage at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle after Savage referred to “bullshit in the Bible about gay people.” After the walkout, Savage invited the offended kids back in the room, but may not have won the kids over after he kinda-sorta swore again. Savage said:

“The bible guys in the hall can come back now because I’m done beating up the bible… It’s funny, as someone who’s on the receiving end of beatings that are justified by the bible, how pansy-assed some people react when you push back.”

Predictably, Fox News got its panties in a twist over the “bullying,” describing the calls for tolerance as “a pointed attack on Christian beliefs.” The Fox piece quotes Candi Cushman, who dusts off the old canard about majority groups being horrifically oppressed by violently suppressed minorities for the sake of political correctness:

“This illustrates perfectly what we’ve been saying all along: Too many times in the name of ‘tolerance,’ Christian students find their faith being openly mocked and belittled in educational environments.”

Savage apologized for hurting anyone’s feelings, but said he had “right to defend [himself.]”
