The 1975 Duster That Brings Back Tender Memories For Jay Leno [Video]

While most of us know Jay Leno as the man behind the Late Show and as a comedian there was a time when he was a teenager where he was a mechanic at a car dealership which is where he first met master mechanic Paul Annunziata who was trying to build a street-legal pro-stock drag car out of a 1975 Duster.

With the help of $10,000 in lottery winnings Annunziata saw his dream come true but after many awards and kudos Annunziata was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer but rather than sell his dream he offered it to Jay Leno for free with the understanding that it Leno would never sell the car.

Leno said yes but only if he could pay Annunziata for his creation and finally after a little bit of bickering they agreed by setting up a scholarship for those who are interested in pursuing a four-year degree in auto mechanics or restoration.

Here is the video of Leno telling the story of the car and his friend Paul Annunziata as well as taking the classic beauty out for a spin.

About the Author

Steven has been around the tech world long enough to see most of the stuff we think of cool happen before which leads to a certain bit of cynicism that has contributed to him being known as the cranky old fart of the Internet. Besides sharing some of the goodness that he finds with you here at 42x you can also find him curating some digital goodness at Winextra (tech type stuff) and Rotten Gumdrops (for your daily dose of WTF).
