It’s one thing to be bored and waste your time surfing the web or getting sucked into Facebook but it is something else when your street name is “Bored” and you decide that the time has come to turn your hometown sidewalks into parts of a Monopoly gameboard.

First noticed and reported on sites like reddit and This is Colossal it seemed that someone (or group) had decided to have some fun and started to place giant reproductions of Monopoly pieces in and around Chicago. Not only were pieces like the game dice being reproduced but there were also giant Community Chest and Chance cards showing up in various spots with humorous and obscure messages on them.

Christopher Jobson of Colossal managed to get in contact with “Bored”, who wishes to remain anonymous, and got their explanation behind the idea

“the goal of this entire project has been to present something different than a stencil painted on the ground or a poster pasted to a wall. Something 3-dimensional that can be picked up, beaten down, kicked, yanked, grabbed, and broken. And if someone ever put forth the effort to remove it, like a weed it will always grow back. And if left alone it will evolve into something different.”

Here’s some of the Monopoly pieces that has been showing, and I really hope continue to show up.
