The Condom Sponsorship War At The Olympics

The Condom Sponsorship War At The Olympics

Everything, and I mean every thing to do with the Olympics has to be ‘officially’ sponsored and approved by the Olympic committee and that would appear to extend even to condoms.

Techdirt has the story of the “Official” Condom supply Durex being a little miffed at some interloper from down under trying to squeeze their territory and have called the Olympic sponsor police into investigate.

And, of course, the Olympics found a sponsor to pay up for the privilege of being where the rubber meets the… well, you know. Durex is the official condom of the games. But… uh oh, call in the brand police! BMX cyclist Caroline Buchanan tweeted a photo of free condoms available in the Olympic Village which (*gasp*!) were not made by Durex!

The image at the top of the post is of the interloper.

About the Author

Steven has been around the tech world long enough to see most of the stuff we think of cool happen before which leads to a certain bit of cynicism that has contributed to him being known as the cranky old fart of the Internet. Besides sharing some of the goodness that he finds with you here at 42x you can also find him curating some digital goodness at Winextra (tech type stuff) and Rotten Gumdrops (for your daily dose of WTF).
