President Obama is Totally Pinning Stuff on Pinterest

Well, probably someone on his campaign staff is managing it, but the inclusion of the Obama campaign is a pretty big win for budding social media star Pinterest.

The site has grown in leaps and bounds, but certainly no one as notable as the leader of the free world has yet joined the site to date. Via Twitter, the official @BarackObama account confirmed that the President is officially joining the Pinterest fray, tweeting:

“Organizers, infographics, murals, and cake—now pinning all of the above for #Obama2012 on Pinterest: [http://pinterest.com/barackobama/]”

Cake. Do we even need to have an election? Can we just call it right now and have universal cupcakes-in-a-jar? As of now, Hopey’s got eight boards going, and just over 8,000 followers. The boards are:

  • Obama-inspired recipes
  • Pet lovers for Obama
  • Just the facts
  • Obama 2012 in action
  • Faces of change
  • The First Family
  • ObamArt
  • Obama 2012 merch

Of course, the account has drawn, along with fans, a few quips from clever Pinterest pranksters. On a graph about income inequality, a pinner ID’d as Rick Santorum commented:

“Please try reading the Bible, Mr. President. Matthew 8:7 clearly states: ‘And Jesus said to him, I will come and heal him, if he can pay for his own care without subsidies from Caesar.'”
