Obama at White House Forum: Women Are Not ‘Some Monolithic Bloc’

The election of 2012 has to be the silliest in recent memory, probably no more typified than by the fact that President Barack Obama is probably gaining an edge just by pandering to women.

Women, who make up more than half of the voting population… and yet for some reason, the GOP has chosen the lead up to what is looking to be an in-the-bag victory for Obama by alienating them by warring over birth control access. At a Friday White House forum event, President Obama dared be reasonable about the way women are treated, telling attendees:

“When we talk about these issues that primarly impact women, we’ve got to realize that they are not just women’s issues… They are family issues. They are growth issues. They are issues about American competiveness. They are issues that impact all of us.”

The Commander in Chief continued:

“There’s been a lot of talk about women and women’s issues lately, as there should be. But I do think that the conversation has been oversimplified. Women are not some monolithic bloc.”

During his remarks, Obama did not mention any Republican competitors by name, but pointed to lack of access to essential services like mammograms that would result from cutting women’s access to care. Recent polls indicate that Obama leads by 18 points among women voters in general.
